We are almost to the end of the second grading period. I can't believe the year is moving so quickly. Remember to practice those sight words and keep reading the take home books. this week we have been doing lots of assessments so we will have only one take home book. We are really working on writing. Writing complete sentences with a capital letter at the beginning and having and ending mark is hard work in kindergarten. Learning how to make sure the sentence contains both the subject and the predicate part is important too. We have been doing that this week and I think we are making remarkable progress. We still have a long way to go. Students are beginning to remember to have the correct spacing between the letters in a word and between the words in sentences. It seems like we have so much to do!
In math we are working on numbers from 11 to 20. We draw and model sets of the number and then trace and write the number and the number word. Encourage your child to practice writing the numbers 1 through 20. I am very pleased with our number writing. One thing I notice when students are counting they tend to get ahead of themselves and end up counting the objects incorrectly. One way we avoid this is to make a mark on each object as they count. This seems to help. Please continue to work on number identification and counting to 50. I really appreciate all of your dedication and hard work.
